The company began as a small, local developer of residential investments. Compared to the current profile, it was a related field (broadly understood construction). The end of its development activities and shift to design was tied to the local market (a small office in Poznań). The office initially did not offer all types of design services in the sector, with a limited offering in architectural and urban design; at that time, employees specialized in road, airfield, and sanitary design. However, starting in 2019, the company launched a major initiative to expand its range of services. Today, the company offers all types of design services across all fields and operates nationwide.
AMW Invest is a wholly state-owned company established by the Military Property Agency in 1999 under the name DOM Invest Until November 13, 2018, the company's main goal was to develop post-military properties acquired by the Military Property Agency from the Ministry of National Defence
Development Activities
Over the years, the company achieved a strong position in the Wrocław market in development activities. In its early years, it successfully modernized a barracks complex on Przyjaźni Street in Wrocław, creating 49 apartments. In September 2003, the company began a new project, converting barracks into apartments in a complex on Zwycięska Street, completing four stages of the investment by adapting seven barracks buildings into 266 comfortable apartments and developing the surrounding land.
Alongside these conversions, a new residential estate was built on the outskirts of Wrocław in the town of Wysoka, consisting of six small, three-story multi-family buildings with 114 apartments, located near the Partynice racetrack and shopping centers in Bielany Wrocławskie. Another modern, harmoniously designed residential complex, Wysoka II, located on the southern edge of Wrocław between Ołtaszyn and Partynice, was completed in 2010 with intimate buildings of up to three stories, containing 76 apartments.
The latest completed investment is the "Wyspa Mieszczańska" project, located in the center of Wrocław on Kępa Mieszczańska Island, at 1 Romana Dmowskiego Street.
By letter dated November 30, 2017, the President of the Military Property Agency directed the company to begin preparations to expand its operations to include design services for the Polish Armed Forces and to initiate cooperation with the management of the Military Construction Design Office based in Poznań, with a view to acquiring this company's enterprise through bankruptcy proceedings. On April 4, 2018, AMW Invest and WBPB filed statements as an applicant and potential purchaser under Article 56b(2) of the Bankruptcy Law.
On February 23, 2018, the company’s shareholder amended the company’s Articles of Association to expand its operations to include design services. As a result, in April 2018, the company opened a design office in Poznań, initially employing five people. On July 10, 2018, the District Court of Poznań-Stare Miasto declared the bankruptcy of Military Construction Design Office , approving the sale conditions of the bankrupt enterprise to AMW Invest.
The process of acquiring the bankrupt enterprise concluded with a contract signed with the trustee on November 23, 2018. The acquisition enabled AMW Invest to utilize the heritage of a company dating back to 1968, effectively expanding its scope of activity.
In October 2018, the company opened a design office in Warsaw, employing four people. Subsequently, on November 13, 2018, the shareholder amended the Articles of Association to change the primary business activity to design services.
The company was transformed into a design office to fill the AMW group’s offering for the Polish Armed Forces with a previously missing design component. Prior to AMW Invest 's transformation, there were no public entities in the Polish market engaged in the sensitive area of design for national defense and security. The practice of selecting contractors solely through open tender procedures posed the risk of losing knowledge and critical competencies in cases of bankruptcy, takeovers, or acquisitions of private companies and hindered the State Treasury’s flexible response to the growing demand for security and defense design services.
Starting in early 2019, the process of creating a design office accelerated, laying the foundation for a multidisciplinary design team. A recruitment campaign in January and February brought in key team members in Warsaw, including licensed architects, telecommunication engineers, electricians, and structural engineers. Additionally, a new board member was appointed in March 2019. At this time, the company’s headquarters moved from Wrocław to Warsaw, and efforts to secure in-house contracts began. The first such contract was signed on April 12, 2019, with AMW’s regional office in Warsaw.
In 2019, the company expanded its contract portfolio and gained initial experience in preparing architectural designs. This included multifunctional building designs for JW GROM combat teams and negotiating contracts that provided greater operational stability for the following year. Notably, the company designed buildings for mobile radar stations as part of military radio engineering infrastructure modernization, requiring complex technical solutions to ensure crew survivability in contaminated environments. The company also undertook a runway renovation project at a military airfield in northern Poland and started residential and collective housing projects for the Military Property Agency.
Key Development in Design Capabilities: 2020 and Beyond. In 2020, a multi-year strategic plan for 2020-2022 was adopted, aiming to build a professional design office. This growth aligned with the company’s strategy and the team’s first experiences. At the same time, the Ministry of National Defence decided to establish the 18th Mechanized Division. In response, the company developed military urban planning competencies, executing urban designs in Nowa Dęba and Sitaniec-Wolica. These projects required a long-term vision for garrison development and are now a hallmark of the company. The Design Studio also started multidisciplinary projects for components of this operational unit.
In 2020, the company signed important contracts with the Military Property Agency to prepare multidisciplinary design documentation for a sports center at the 33rd Airlift Base and an architectural-urban concept, which supported the government-level agreements to increase the number of U.S. troops in Poland. The sports center is designed for joint use by Polish and American forces, providing a purpose-built space and infrastructure.
In 2021, the company continued projects begun in previous years and further expanded its contract portfolio. A key achievement was signing a contract to prepare design documentation for investment tasks supporting the operation of the F-35 aircraft. Globally, infrastructure supporting the fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet is among the most demanding and complex in military construction, particularly the operational-simulator building and maintenance hangar. These projects underwent detailed audits and accreditation by Lockheed Martin, the F-35 system manufacturer, showcasing the company’s expertise and opening international opportunities. In 2022 and 2023, the company implemented this contract, moving into the construction phase in spring 2023. The rapid project completion—surpassing similar projects globally—demonstrated the high-quality design skills of the team and was recognized by international partners. At the end of 2022 and in early 2023, the management completed negotiations and signed a contract to design infrastructure at a second Polish location designated for the F-35.
In 2022, the company also participated in projects supporting the new advanced weaponry of the Polish Armed Forces, including a contract to upgrade building No. 22 with a car wash for military vehicles. Work continued on the implementation phase of buildings for the American side, including a multidisciplinary design contract in Powidz for a helipad, parking, car wash, fueling point, and a separate contract for barracks and a canteen.
At the end of 2022 and in 2023, the company actively contributed to building the Polish Army’s new operational unit, the 1st Legions Infantry Division, which began its formation. The company signed contracts to develop urban plans for closed military areas, using innovative methods to calculate building needs for specific brigades and battalions, for which the infrastructure is being designed. While designing infrastructure for the 1st LID, the designers addressed the requirements of new equipment purchased from South Korea, including K2 tanks, K9 howitzers, and other systems. The company also began designing for another air force weapon system entering service—the FA-50 aircraft.
